Pole Dance is Not Therapy

And I'm not your mama.

Using pole dance as your only outlet for mental health struggles is harmful—to you and to those who work in studios.
Movement is a powerful and healing practice, but relying solely on pole to "fix" your mental health is a recipe for disaster. What happens if you get injured and can't get your weekly fix? What if your favorite instructor moves away? Or if your beloved studio closes? These things happen, and while it's totally valid to feel sad, your mental stability shouldn't crumble because of it.
Your mental health is precious and deserves professional support. Pole instructors are here to guide your movement, not carry the weight of your emotional healing. Leaving that responsibility to people who aren't trained mental health professionals can be damaging—for you and for them.
And let's talk about the whole "pole mom" thing. I know it comes from a place of love, but this dynamic puts unnecessary emotional labor on instructors. Your progress and achievements are YOURS. We're here to support you, but not to mother you.
Let's keep the pole community a healthy and empowering space—for everyone.
xoxo,
Johanna, CEO & Founder aka Pole Daddy
